Erika’s Lighthouse (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides this privacy policy to describe how we collect, use, and share information of individuals who visit our website at www.erikaslighthouse.org/ (the “Site”).

When using our Site, you may voluntarily provide information about yourself, including your name, contact information, log-in information, date of birth, information about your school or district, information about your program interests, and any other information you choose to provide. Additionally, students may provide information about their grade level, and parents, family members, educators, school professionals, and community members may provide employment information. For example, we collect this information when you join our email list, create an account, comment on a blog post, register for events or programs, apply to participate in a project, complete a survey, contact us, or interact with us for any other purpose. We may also collect your mailing and billing information or other financial or account information when you make a donation.

We (and other entities) automatically collect information relating to your interactions with us and our Site, including browser type, IP address, pages visited and other activities on the Site, device type, and time and date of visit, and other information we collect through the use of cookies and similar technology.   • To provide services, including to process club applications and register you for programs and events;
  • To respond to your inquiries and requests;

  • To comply with the law and to maintain the security of our Site; or

For example, because our mission is to serve as a resource for teens, family members, and people who care about them to learn about depression and ways to deal with mental health issues, we occasionally link to news and information from the mental health community on our Site, through e-mail communications, or in our newsletter. The Site also includes integrated social media tools or “plug-ins,” such as social networking or fundraising tools offered by third parties. If you use these tools to share personal information or you otherwise interact with these features on the Site, those companies may collect information about you and may use and share such information in accordance with your account settings, including by sharing such information with the general public.

Your interactions with third-party companies and your use of their features are governed by the privacy policies of the companies that provide those features. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policies of any accounts you create and use.

Visitors from the European Economic Area (“EEA”), United Kingdom (“UK”), and Switzerland

This section applies to residents of the European Economic Area (“EEA”), the United Kingdom (“UK”), or Switzerland.

  • Contract: It is necessary to process your personal information to perform a contract with you or because you have requested we do something before creating a contract with you that requires we process your personal information. For example, we process your name and payment information to process donations.
  • Legitimate Interest: There is a commercial or business interest that is important to us or others which we’ve balanced against your privacy rights. For example, we may process device information and IP address to ensure the security of our network and the Site.
  • Consent: We have asked for your permission to use your personal information.
  • Legal Obligation: It is necessary to use your personal information so that we can fulfil our legal and regulatory obligations. For example, some recordkeeping laws require we collect and retain certain information.
    Personal information may be transferred to the United States and to service providers in countries outside the EEA, UK, or Switzerland and may be stored and processed manually and electronically through global systems and tools for the purposes outlined above.

The criteria used to determine the period of storage of information is the respective statutory retention period. After expiration of that period, the corresponding information is routinely deleted, as long as it is no longer necessary for other legal compliance purposes.

Your Choices

Erika’s Lighthouse maintains a password protected e-mail and postal mailing list for the purpose of disseminating information about Erika’s Lighthouse activities including our annual events, and teen and school programs. Participation in such outbound communications is strictly on an “opt-in” basis. To opt out of our email marketing, you may also use the link provided at the bottom of each marketing message. If you opt out of our marketing, we will still send you messages related to our relationship with you, such as event registration confirmations.
